ΧΤΕΔΑχ³φ University Appoints George L. Cooper, KC (’89), as Chancellor

SACKVILLE, NB – ΧΤΕΔΑχ³φ University is pleased to announce the appointment of George L. Cooper, KC, as itsβ€―10th Chancellor. A proud ΧΤΕΔΑχ³φ alumnus and highly respected legal and community leader, Mr. Cooper will assume this titular role for a four-year term, effective January 1, 2026. 

β€œGeorge Cooper exemplifies leadership rooted in service, integrity, and a deep connection to the ΧΤΕΔΑχ³φ community,” says Cheryl Hodder, KC (β€˜81), Chair of ΧΤΕΔΑχ³φ’s Board of Regents. β€œAs a graduate, long-time supporter, and former Chair of our Board, he brings a thoughtful and values-driven approach that aligns beautifully with the spirit of this institution.” 

Mr. Cooper graduated from ΧΤΕΔΑχ³φ with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in 1989. He later earned his law degree from the University of New Brunswick followed by a Master of Laws from the University of Cambridge. He has built a distinguished legal career and currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and Partner at Cox & Palmer, one of Atlantic Canada’s leadingβ€―law firms. 

β€œI am deeply honoured to be appointed Chancellor of ΧΤΕΔΑχ³φ University, a place that has played such a formative role in my life,” says Mr. Cooper. β€œΧΤΕΔΑχ³φ’s tradition of academic excellence, close-knit community, and commitment to developing principled leaders is something I have always cherished. I look forward to working with students, alumni, faculty, and staff to help advance the University’s mission and celebrate its achievements in the years ahead.” 

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Cooper has contributed extensively to public and community service. He previously served as Chair of ΧΤΕΔΑχ³φ’s Board of Regents and Chair of the Greater Moncton International Airport Authority, among other governance and volunteer roles. A frequent lecturer and mentor, Mr. Cooper is known for his commitment to education, access to justice, and the development of emerging leaders. 

Mr. Cooper succeeds Lynn Loewen (β€˜82), who has served with distinction since 2018. The University extends its deepest gratitude for her dedication and longstanding service to the ΧΤΕΔΑχ³φ community.
